Pack of mules

A friend of mine from graduate school is about to have a baby and he was asking me if I had any advice. I had one thing – I told him, "take out half the stuff that you are about to put into your diaper bag, you can get by without most of it. Otherwise it will take you about 8 hours and a pack of mules to get out of the house every time you want to go somewhere". And that is my tidbit of wisdom for the day.

Sooooooo true. Noob parents are hilarious.

I think it's totally awesome that, at this point in the thread, 3 comments out of the total of 4 on this diaperbag-centric post came from men!!!!

I'm gonna say you also need one full change of baby clothes though, for those poop blowouts that soil everything and make you wanna burn the car seat.

Extra clothes are for amateurs, you could always fashion an impromptu outfit for your baby by scavenging some leaves and sticks and recycled paper bags.

To be fair, though, some of the not-needing-everything comes with the practical experience of knowing your kids patterns and signs that stuff is impending. You maybe can't avoid the carseat blowouts but you can shift the odds a little in your favor with experience.
